This IDC study examines the market share of the major vendors in the worldwide smartphone market in 2024."The worldwide smartphone market built off its rebound in 2023 to turn in another year of growth for both volume and value," points out Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Mobile Phones team. "A combination of factors took place: first, replacement cycles kicked in for those who have owned the same smartphone since 2021 or longer. Second, demand for inexpensive 5G smartphones within emerging markets saw terrific demand, and multiple local vendors were eager to meet that. Third, premium devices continued to draw an audience. Previously, this was the realm of foldable smartphones, but with the official start of GenAI smartphones taking place in 2024, vendors were quick to stake their claim with innovations and conveniences aplenty."
