This IDC study provides a five-year forecast of the worldwide used smartphone market."For some, the thought of purchasing a used or refurbished smartphone would be out of the question, yet on both a regional and worldwide level, the market continues to grow," said Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Mobile Devices and AR/VR. "Smartphones whose hardware could still last three or even four years after initial ownership and whose software can be updated for years to come can find a second or even third life well beyond their first owners. Meanwhile, customers benefit from saving money compared with purchasing a new smartphone. What will bear close attention in the years to come is the level of inventory and how resellers choose to price it."
