This IDC Perspective examines the importance of IT/operational technology (OT) security convergence in the utilities sector. Utility energy infrastructure is currently one of the most targeted and vulnerable set of assets in terms of security threats globally. IT and OT security is crucial in today's environment with the increases in security threats occurring combined with the vulnerabilities and exposure that utility networks have around the world."IDC expects IT/OT security convergence efforts to increase, with the majority of utilities globally in sector intertwining security personnel, technologies, and processes to better protect against both cyberthreats and physical threats and therefore reducing overall security breaches significantly," said John Villali, senior research director, IDC Energy Insights.
