This IDC Perspective explores the importance of engineering data and operations data exchange across both roles. As enterprises move to expand the use of AI and advanced analytics capabilities supporting digital twins, a cross-functional data exchange capability is increasingly required to take advantage of new technology capabilities. "Ask anyone in either role and they will bemoan the challenges of getting necessary data from the other team," says Jonathan Lang, research director, Worldwide IT/OT Convergence Strategies at IDC. "Despite these teams managing interdependent processes along the internal value chain, the systems and data meaningful to each remain hidden in many cases."
